Elizabeth Selinger 2/1/1940 – 12/1/2016Born in wartime Brussels, Belgium, she was hidden by friendly Nuns until the city was liberated; and then reunited with her parents at the age of 4. The family migrated to New York after the war.She graduated from Brooklyn College; received a Master of Political Science degree from Arizona State University Tempe, and graduated from the Antioch School of Law, where she was also the Managing Editor of the Antioch Law Journal. From 1983 until the present, she has been a Legislative Analyst in the Office of Legislative Analysis of the Congressional Research Service, where she monitored pending legislation as it was scheduled for debate and/or vote. She also played a key role in the development and implementation of the CRS “LegAlert,” system. And at one point she successfully opposed religious promotion within the Library of Congress Offices.Prior to her career with the Congressional Research Service, she was an administrative coordinator for the Commission for Women of Fairfax County and worked with various civic groups. She was an avid dancer and together with a group of early Argentine Tango devotees, helped organize and promote the now widespread DC tango community – giving it the name of the “Capital Tangueros”.She is survived by her partner of many years, George Tressel, and two sons: Michael Rumberg; his wife Marisela and sons Nicholas and Louis; and Steve Rumberg and his son, Mark. We will always miss her vivacity, her warmth and her effervescent dancing!Elizabeth will be buried with her parents in a cemetery in Long Island, New York.

Condolence Messages

  1. Steve Rumberg says:

    Hi Mom,

Not sure if you have Internet yet, wherever you are, but sharing some thoughts as I read about you.

You are in me. I carry so many lessons of life from you and thoughts of you. You are in my son, too — he was reading college textbook on astronomy at age 4. I see you in Michael, too.

I miss you. We all do. And will, forever. I have to stop now — tears aren’t good for the keyboard.

  2. Mike Rumberg says:

    Mom Mother-Of-Mike

You were so warm, and loving, and caring, and always had so much patience, even when maybe I didn’t deserve it. You touched so many lives and all of us are the better for it.

We will miss your cheery smile, irreverent jokes, joy for life and sense of adventure and justice and you will forever remain in our hearts and minds.

    I love you so much.

    Michael

  4. Teresa Cardiff says:

I worked with Liz many years ago at CRS. She was such a bright light and I was inspired by her energy and optimism. She was always available to offer guidance to me, particularly when I was going through personal difficulties and the confusion of my late twenties. She will be so missed–my most sincere condolences to Liz’s family–this is truly a great loss…

  5. Holland... says:
