Barbara Jane Basla Wichmann, 60, died Friday, September 14th at her home on Bolling Air Force Base. She loved life as an Air Force wife traveling the world, volunteering as a Hospice Aid, teaching Religious Education, working as a Wedding Coordinator, volunteering at soup kitchens, and working in hospitality management; but first and foremost, she loved being a wife, mother, and consummate hostess.Barbara is survived by her husband, Lt Gen Michael Joseph Basla, USAF; daughters Sara Ruddy Patrick, Beth Ketchum Larry, and Marissa Basla; her son, Adam; her mother, Jane Wichmann Sheidt; sisters Peggy Thomas and Gail Hagan; and brothers, Bruce, Brian, and Scott Wichmann. She is also survived by grandchildren Carter, Hannah, Olivia, and Brooks Ruddy; and Charlie, Hudson, and Griffin Ketchum. A celebration of Barbara?s life will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at Cunningham Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA. A Catholic Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Bolling AFB Chapel. Internment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara?s name may be made to the Association for Frontal-Temporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org.
