Hallie Odell Yarborough Ennis, daughter of the late Rudy F. and Minnie O. Yarborough, was born on March 5, 1953 in Caswell County, North Carolina. She departed this life on September 27, 2020 at the Reston Hospital Center in Reston, VA.

Hallie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and savior at an early age. She rededicated her life at Christ Fellowship Church of Herndon, VA on November 7, 1993. She was a true example of this by spreading love, light and joy everywhere she went and with everyone she met. She was always smiling and spreading positivity and hope.

Hallie received her early education in Caswell County public schools where she completed her high school education at Walter Williams High School in May 1970. She was the first Black cheerleader at WWHS. Wanting to experience what life was like in a big city, she followed her big sister, Rachel to Alexandria, VA. She loved it so much, she planted her roots and raised her children here.

She began her career working for the Department of Defense and specialized in Quality Assurance. Through her dedication and hard work, she was steadily promoted and retired with over 35 years of federal government service. She retired in May 2018. In 1982, Hallie met and worked with Carolyn Williams for 2 years, whom she described as a “special friend/sister”. They remained friends forever.

During her leisure time, Hallie volunteered with the USO (United Service Organization), packing care packages for service members. Years ago, she would go to local airports to welcome back home service members arriving from Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Germany. She also enjoyed shopping, playing bingo and going to concerts. She loved contemporary jazz and R&B and her favorite song was, “Can’t Let Go” (Acoustic Version) by Calvin Richardson. Her favorite jazz artists were Bonney James and Mike Phillips. Hallie was a giving soul, always willing to help those who could not help themselves.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Malik O. Yarborough, Sr. (Lovie) of Clinton, MD; one daughter, Leslie Ennis-Sandoval (Marty) of Alexandria, VA, six grandchildren, Malik, Jr. of Reston, VA; Shaniqua of Clinton, MD; Monique of Clinton, MD; Jahnique of Clinton, MD, Mila of Alexandria, VA; and Cruz of Alexandria, VA, four great-grandchildren Myumi of Clinton, MD; Carmelita of Cape May, NJ; Malik, III of Reston, VA; and Skye Simone of Clinton, MD; four sisters, Frances Walker (Timothy) of Graham, NC; Kathy Yarbrough of Shelton, CT; Darlene Robinson of Graham, NC; Bernice Allison (Gilbert) of Mebane, NC; one brother, Roy Yarborough of Knoxville, TN (Dorothy) of Burlington, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded by three brothers, William Anderson Yarborough, James Hulon Yarborough, and Rufus Lee Yarborough; and one sister, Rachel Yarborough.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt and special thank you to Dr. Ghuari, Dr. Spira, Frances, Lisa and the entire medical team who assisted in the care and comfort provided to Hallie during her illness over the past five years.
