Katherine Ann Koch

Katherine Ann Koch (59) of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 11 at Alexandria Hospital.

Born in Connecticut and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Barbara Koch and the late William Koch. She is survived by Barbara of Chapel Hill, brother Peter (Debbie) of Sylva, NC, nephews Benjamin and William, and by her ex-husband Ramsay Tanham of Arlington, Virginia.

A graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, Katherine worked for many years for Charities Aid Foundation of America in Alexandria where she was known for her mentorship, humor, and drive. Before that, she was employed by Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline in the Charlottesville office as a regional trainer for the counties east of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Katherine enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, including nieces and nephews, both on her side and her ex-husband’s. She will be dearly missed for her ability to connect people and for caregiving those in crisis. Katherine was very creative and was known for the handmade cards she would make for holidays and birthdays. A long-time Bellevue Forest Garden Club member, Katherine enjoyed needlework, gardens, and interior design. She was a voracious reader who always kept a good mystery book close at hand. Her love of travel regionally, nationally, and internationally always had her on the go to see friends and explore new vistas. Her warmth, wit, and pointed commentary will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Katherine Koch to Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, Camp Graham via Fund Development, 6901 Pinecrest Rd. Raleigh, NC 27613 or https://www.nccoastalpines.org.
