It was there that she met Will, who was also in the Navy. They married in 1947, and, later in 1962, moved their family to Alexandria, VA, where they remained. She retired from work at The Washington Post newspaper, where she was a teletype operator. In retirement, Dorothy and Will were avid golfers and bowlers, and belonged to the Burke Lake Golf Club. She was a celebrated cook and seamstress, and also enjoyed gardening. Her greatest pleasures were homemaking, spending time with family and spending time with her dogs.
The family would like to thank Pearlbea Labier, LCSW and her partner, Allan, as well as their staff, from Labier Assisted Living in Alexandria, VA for their dedicated, professional care of both Dorothy and Will for the last seven years.
Due to the pandemic, the family will be having a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Alzheimer’s Association via their website.
