Daniel Howard Young
October 9th, 1944 - August 15th, 2024
Our beloved Daniel (Dan) Howard Young left us on August 15, 2024 after nearly 80 years on this earth. Dan is now at peace with Christ in heaven looking down upon us with love. Love is the word that most aptly describes Dan’s devotion God, to his family, and for the causes he was passionate about.
Dan bravely served his county during the Vietnam conflict, later dedicating his life to a nearly four decade career in the civil service. In retirement Dan was an active member of the local church with a determination to support and help those less fortunate in our community. Dan was truly a scholar at heart holding multiple advanced Master’s degrees including a Franciscan Seminary that led to his Bible study instruction for inmates at the Fairfax County Detention Center. Dan was truly a humble and selfless person and he will be forever missed.
Dan is survived by his wife of more than 50 years Judith Knight Young and their two sons Andrew and Adam. Dan enthusiastically through his support behind each of his three grandchildren, Victoria, Natalia and Sebastian. His contributions were instrumental in their development and education.
Daniel Howard Young entered this world on October 9, 1944. The youngest of five children, Dan was born in Richmond Maine to Mable Trask and Orman Young. Growing up in Richmond, Maine, Dan began a lifelong appreciation for the close knit nature of small town life also drawing inspiration from the abundance of nature he was blessed to have around him. In his formative years, Dan was taught to respect, and to love all of the Gods creatures. This sermon stayed with him his entire life. His time in small town New England would be short lived however, as soon thereafter a brief stint at Houghton College in New York, Dan would be whisked half way around the world after enlisting in the United States Air Force to fight in Vietnam.
After returning home Dan met his wife, got married and raised his sons just outside Washington D.C. Dan and Judy remained together until the end. He passed peacefully with his wife at his side. Daniel was the last of his family to pass reuniting with parents and his sisters Maxine and Dorris, and his brothers Orman Jr, and Alfred in heaven.
Dan will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at Quantico.
