In Loving Memory of Claudia Gene Cason

With deep sorrow, we announce the departure of Claudia Gene Cason, daughter of Evelyn Elizabeth and Eugene Preston Via, was born in Alexandria, Virginia on the 4th of October 1946, who has been called to her eternal rest on the 25th of May, 2024, at the age of 77.

Raised in Alexandria, Claudia was a beloved member of the George Washington High School graduating class of 1964. Following her education, she embarked upon a career as a billing coordinator within the automotive industry, then our family furniture stores, before committing her professional life to the esteemed Law Firm of Winston & Strawn, where she served with dedication until her retirement.

An enthusiastic participant in various athletic pursuits throughout her life, Claudia displayed remarkable skill on the softball field, at the bowling alley, and within the competitive sphere of marbles as a child. Her hands were seldom idle, finding pleasure in the arts of scrapbooking, assembling puzzles, and engaging in many other creative crafts. Alongside these passions, she generously volunteered at the Inova Treasure Trove, not only lending her time and skills to the
store but also fulfilling the role of treasurer.

Left to cherish her memory, Claudia leaves behind her beloved son William J. Cason Jr., her longtime companion Richard Hooper, her former spouse Bill Cason, and her cousins Sylvia Beale and Donna Smith-Roberts, as well as other cousins on both sides of the family. Claudia’s memory will be cherished and kept alive through the hearts of her loving family and friends. Her passion for life the warmth of her companionship, and camaraderie will be sorely missed by all.

The family invites those who knew and loved Claudia to gather for visitation on the evening of the 7th of June, from six until eight o'clock and again on the morning of the 8th of June, from eleven until twelve o' clock at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, with her life's service commencing at noon on the 8th.

In lieu of customary remembrances, and in recognition of Claudia's charity of spirit, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are kindly directed to the American Heart Association.

It is the family's wish that her spirit of generosity and love be continued in her memory.

Following the 12 o'clock service on June 8th, we would like to invite family and friends who loved Claudia to join us as we come together to pause, reflect, share laughter and tears, and provide mutual support with a repast celebration from 2:00 PM till 5:00 PM at The Franconia Moose Lodge #1076, located at 7701 Beulah St. Alexandria, VA 2231. Delicious food, generously provided by the Ladies of the Moose, will be served, along with a cash bar.
