On Monday February 14, 2022, Catherine V. Saunders “Kitty Kat” was peacefully called home to be with our Heavenly Father. She was surrounded by her devoted family.

Catherine was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 14, 1944 to the late Helen Floyd Jackson and William Jackson. She attended Alexandria City Public Schools and graduated from
Parker-Gray School June 1964. Her passion for styling hair influenced her to become a License Cosmetologist in 1967. She pursued a career in finance at United Bank in Washington, DC.
She furthered her career at Kay Jewelers Corporation as an Accountant for 10 years. Shortly after that she became an employee of the City of Alexandria Public School Systems where she retired in June 2008. Then she returned as a part time employee.

On June 23, 1972, Catherine married the late Christopher N. Saunders. From this union they had their magnificent daughter Tamela M. Saunders. Her desire to nurture others expanded into providing care for relatives and friends.

February 1993, Catherine gave her life to Christ through Baptism at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Alexandria, Virginia.

Catherine enjoyed listing to her Motown Oldies but Goodies James Brown, and Aretha Franklin. She enjoyed visiting and traveling with friends, catching the Old Towne Trolley everywhere. She was a member of the 7+7 Social Club. She was strong willed, thoughtful, and a warm-hearted person that was loved and known throughout Alexandria, VA. Her personality was a delightful blend of warmth, comfort, and pure love.

Catherine was a devoted, phenomenal, outstanding mother, and grandmother. Job well done!!! She leaves to cherish her memories by her only daughter Tamela M. Saunders (Furman Jones), one grandson Maurice T. Saunders, two sister’s-in-law Gloria A. Ford, Janet Charity, niece-in-law Adrienne Robinson; one brother-in-law Nobel Saunders, Jr.; niece’s Rena Hicks, Robin S. Harper, Roberta Elliott-Speight, Heather L. Poindexter, Great niece’s Zola Robinson, Rakaya Lorick; Nephews: Bernard Robinson, Brock Harper, Jeffery Maddox, Isiah Maddox, Devin Shaw;
God children, Shavonne Diggs-Perry, Vonetta Massey, NaKevia Martin, Lenora Watkins-Glover; Devoted family friends, Louise Elliott, Charlene Miller, Rita Murphy, Tammy Massey. Preceded in death best friends Janet “Baby Sis” Poindexter, Beverly Diggs, Bernard Barron, and host of other relatives and dear friends. Grand-dog Maleia.

Catherine was preceded in death by Husband Christopher N. Saunders, Grand-mother Ida V. Paxton Floyd, Aunt Lillianne Thompson, Uncle Lonnie Thompson, Cousin Faye Stout; Mother-in-law Fannie Mae Ellis, Father-in-law Noble Saunders Sr.
