Ashby Franklin Owen

Ashby Franklin Owen, age 92, of Alexandria, VA, passed away on March 8, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Helen (Feagans) Owen. Loving father of Thomas F. Owen (Kathy). Cherished grandfather of Hunter Owen (Nicole) and Palmer Owen (Kellie). Great grandfather of Ella Owen and Bennett Owen. Dear brother of Margaret West (late Donald). He was predeceased by a son; James M. Owen, a grandson; Corey Owen, and his siblings; Shirley Ramey, Joyce Scott, Mary Simpson and Samuel Owen.

A lifelong Alexandria resident, Ashby retired from the United States Postal Service, where he was a letter carrier for many years. He was a past President of the National Association of Letter Carriers, and was a member of that organization for over 50 years. Ashby was a people person. Many of his days were spent at the Table Talk Restaurant with a group of friends that gathered there all the time; to discuss anything and everything that was going on in the world and the local community. He was a member of the Fort Hunt- Skidmore Daytime Lodge #355 A.F.& A.M, and was a 32nd. degree Mason in the Kena Temple of the Shrine. An Army veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post # 24, Alexandria, VA. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Ashby loved his Washington Redskins quick to remind all he only missed one game in the 40 years he attended. He also coached youth football. He was a former member and deacon of the Baptist Temple in Alexandria.

The family will receive friends at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Celebration of His Life will be on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11:00 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, VA
