Alfred “Al” McKenzie

July 27, 1957 – November 1, 2023

Al McKenzie, a cherished figure in our community, passed away on November 1, 2023, at the age of 66. He was born in Queens, New York to Fred and Claire McKenzie. Al was a retired Navy Commander, a dedicated father, and a successful entrepreneur. He founded Eco Freedom Detailing, an auto detailing corporation company that brought convenience and restoration to our county.

Al attended Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York where he was an active member of the track and drum and bugle corps teams. He moved on to Delaware State University where he majored in Computer Science and vowed to a life of serving his country.

Alfred was commissioned into the Navy on January 15th, 1981 and spent 23 years in service to our great nation. Al was a loving husband to his wife, Suzanna Simmons, and a proud father of two children, Mia and Ariana. He cherished his role as an Uncle and godfather and was often found cheering them on at sporting events and family gatherings.

Al will be remembered for his infectious laughter, unwavering generosity, and his love for sharing stories and anecdotes of wisdom. Al leaves behind his wife Suzanna Simmons, two children Mia and Ariana, his mother Claire McKenzie, his brother Fred McKenzie, his sister Rita Jackson, and his former spouse, the mother of his children Felicity McKenzie, and a host of relatives and wide circle of friends whose lives were forever enriched by his presence.

The family extends their gratitude to all who have offered their condolences and support during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of his Life Celebration at 12 Noon.

Military Honors will be provided at Quantico Nation Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172 Friday, November 17, 2023 at 9:30 AM. Please arrive by 9:15 AM
