Michael Kevin Mahar, a retired electrician and former union member of the IBEW, Local 26, died unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at the age of 67. Michael is survived by his husband, Bruce Hadloc; his children, Michael (Claire) Mahar, Erin (Anthony) McClees, Keith Mahar and Vincent Broglio; and his grandchildren Jacob, Tyler, Alyssa, and Devin Mahar, and Brenden and Ace McClees. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Sean, Patrick and sister Alice Mahar.
Michael was born in Hartford, Connecticut on March 29, 1956 to Richard Matthew Mahar and Vera Larkman Mahar. After a short stent in Connecticut and New York the family moved to Prince Georges
County Maryland in the early 60’s. Michael, a union electrician for more than 35 years, met Bruce, a manager for a non-profit medical association, on September 3, 1994 and were married on January 13, 2014.
Michael was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was known for being a private, compassionate, honest and kind-hearted person and was always loyal to his family and friends. He was an aficionado of music from Bob Dylan, as well as many types of old school blues, folk and rock and roll. He loved the beach, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, snowy winters and taking his dog on long walks.
Michael will be deeply missed but forever remembered. May he rest in eternal peace.
A celebration of life service for Michael will be held on Friday, February 23 at the Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA from 11am – 12:30pm.
