On June 9, 2020, Lewis Aaron McDaniel, loving father of three, passed away at the age of 82 in Arlington, Virginia. Lewis was born on May 8, 1938 in Tulia, Texas to Stella Mae “Lucy” Hancock and William Pitts “Billy” McDaniel. He attended Amherst High School in Amherst, Texas, where he met and married his sweetheart, Olevia “Gene” Brecheen.
Lewis started his career as an electrician at Southwestern Public Service Company and worked his way up from line-crew to District Manager, until his retirement in 2000. Lewis and Gene built their dream house in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where he enjoyed socializing with friends and playing a lot of golf. Throughout Lewis’ life, he was extremely active in his community and was President of Plainview Toastmasters, President of the Chamber of Commerce and participated in Jaycees, Lions Club and the Rotary Club. His many interests included working with his hands, coin-collecting, WWII history, fishing and golf. To those who knew him, he was a quiet but witty and kind man. You always knew by his crooked smile he was about to say something that would make you laugh. Some of our fondest memories were listening to him play any of his many instruments and enjoying his homemade waffles and chicken-fried steak. We will miss his steadfast advice and loving support.
Lewis was preceded in death by his wife and son, Cass McDaniel and is survived by his son, Mace McDaniel of Mason, Texas; and daughter Amanda McDaniel of Alexandria, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Capital Caring Health, where earthly angels cared for him in his last days.
