Virginia Ayers of Alexandria, everyone’s 92 year young Grandma and wife of the late Robert W. Ayers, passed away on July 14, 2014. She is survived by her two children: Robert R. Ayers Elizabeth of Burke and Jennifer Ayers Jones Mark of Alexandria, and four wonderful grandchildren who adored her, Michael W. Ayers, Cynthia M. Ayers, Melissa L. Ayers of Burke, and Andrew S. “AJ” Jones of Alexandria. Virginia spent her childhood in Suffolk County, Virginia, moving to Alexandria after graduating from high school. She began working at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria on the precision assembly line. She quickly met the man who would become the love of her life. Virginia was a high school athlete apparently a terror on the basketball court, who bowled into her 80’s, once winning the Gold Medal in bowling at the Senior Olympics. Her home was filled with love and affection, laughter, and scrumptious food and baked goods. Her beloved husband once described her as the sweetest and kindest person he had ever known. No one she ever met would tell you differently.

    Virginia Ayers.
I am so very sorry to read about the loss of your dear loved one, Virginia. She will truly be missed…. Please be consoled by the words of Jesus “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” John 5:28,29. Also, “There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Acts 24:15.

  2. Mary-McLean Bancroft Jones says:

Virginia was a real “gentlewoman” and a pleasure to spend with, as I was privileged to do at many wonderful Ayers/Jones family events. She will be missed by many, me included. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, Mary-McLean B. Jones

  3. Angella Ogalo says:

    Dear Ayers Families,
My deepest condolences to your family for the loss of Ms. Virginia. The pain and grief can seem unbearable when we loose our loved ones in death. Revelation 21:4, gives us this wonderful hope that “God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away”. What a great future we have to look forward to, when we will never have to cry anymore because we loose our beloved ones to death. Hope these words from the scripture comfort your family during this difficult times.

    Sincerely,

    Angella Ogalo
