Vernice Lucas, 86 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday June 4, 2013. She was born August 19, 1926 Houchins, Va. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dwain E. Lucas, and her beloved son Carroll Edward Huff.Vernice was owner proprietor for many years of the Rebel Inn in Alexandria.She loved to read, and enjoyed canning, and quilting. Vernice leaves to celebrate and cherish her memory to her children: Vernice Lawson of VA, Delores & Jack Keith of GA, Darrell & Lavern Huff of AZ, Charles & Linda Huff of TX, Randolph & Sylvia Huff of VA, Dan & DelLoraine Huff of MD. 18 Grandchildren, 47 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Three Sisters: Lola Tourigny of NH, Ruby Lavender of MD, Norma Jean & Jimmy Wells of VA. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted by Pastor Wayne Spears at Cunningham Funeral Home On Monday June 10, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery at 12:00 pm.

Thanks for sweet memories.
I have very fond memories of my life while Vernice was living with my Mom, here in Newmarket. We had one on one time when I would stay with her on Wednesdays so my Mom could run errands and get her hair done. Also, our Sunday family dinners were that much more enjoyable with Vernice’s smiling face at the table. She had such a sense of humor and we all loved her very much. I miss you Auntie and you will always be in my heart.
Also, listening to Vernice and my Mom tell stories from their childhood and the sing-a-longs the two of them would have. Every once in a while we children would chime in and sing along with them…..
We are so sorry to hear about Vernice. Our great times go back to The Rebel Inn and The Franconia Moose. She was a great friend. May GOD keep her in his care. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
