Susan Lucas

After a long bout with Alzheimer’s, Susie Lucas passed away peacefully on September 5, 2014. Susie was a beautiful, vibrant, intelligent Texas artist, who came to DC in 1968 after graduating Texas Woman’s College to work at the US Patent Office. She rose to the rank of Primary Examiner, and won awards for the quality and quantity of design patents she issued. When you pass a plastic orange barrel on the highway, or think of the original Macintosh computer, also think of Susie who issued the design patents for those devices. After working two years at the Office, she met her husband-to-be, Jay Lucas, whom she married in 1973 and together they raised in Alexandria a Jewish family comprising two sons, Zachariah and Reuben. Besides her sons and husband, Susie is survived by two grandchildren, Elaena and Keenan. She will be buried on September 7, 2014 at the Home of Peace cemetery at Payne and Franklin Street, Alexandria, at 3:00 o’clock. A memorial service will be held at Beth El Hebrew Congregation, 3830 Seminary Rd, Alexandria, VA 22304. 703-370-9400. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the synagogue in Susie’s name, or to the Alzheimer’s Association is suggested. Funeral under direction of Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, Alexandria, VA, under contract with the Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington.

    Dear Families,
My deepest condolences to your family for the loss of Ms. Susan. Revelation 21:4 gives us this wonderful hope that “God will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more”. What a great hope we have to look forward to when we will never have to cry anymore because we loose our love ones to death. May these words from the scripture comfort your family as you mourn the loss of Ms. Susan.

    Sincerely,
    Angella Ogalo
