It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce that a much loved and adored Paul Hilton Woods was sent to heaven on October 24, 2016. Paul was a resident of Bethesda Chevy Chase and attended Lady of Lourdes Primary Catholic School and then Bethesda-Chevy Chase BCCHigh school until 1967. It was at BCC where he found his love for sports. Paul played football and basketball and ultimately became a die-hard Redskin fan! Upon graduation he then joined the United States Navy where he served as a Corpman for the H&S Company, 1st Medical Batallion, 1st Marine Division as a Medic during the Vietnam War 1967-1973. His honorable service was commended with a National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medial w/ FMF Combat Operation Insignia & 01 Bronze Star. He lived to tell his battle stories and memoirs about those who served and died. Yet to live with the side effects of PTSD and Asian Orange. Upon completion of his tour he enlisted in the Reserves and thereafter worked as a Construction Foreman within various companies in and around the Montgomery County, MD Area. In the late 90s Paul became ill due to various health conditions and was homebound. It was in this time of need, he met Sandy Ghosh. It was love at 1st sight. He promised to put a diamond ring on her finger and love her until the end of time. Paul kept his promise and they were married in the Summer of 2002. Paul and Sandy continued to reside in Montgomery County, in which, he helped raise her only daughter Rani who then became his daughter and in turn became a loving and wonderful grandfather. Between the mid-2000s Paul endured many health hardships and had to have his leg amputated and underwent dialysis three days a week. Despite his health conditions he always laughed, made clean and dirty jokes, loved his family and kept a smile on him and everyone he came into contact with. Moreover, because of his health conditions and his wife’s inability to lift and care for his daily needs 6ft 4inch man at 275lbs and her at 4ft 11inches and 130lbs he relocated to the Washington Veteran’s Affairs Hospital Long Term Care Facility. It is here where he gained another family and many staff members, veterans, Service dogs that all that loved him. To this day we will always cherish him and all he did each day to make anyone happy. He will always be remembered and he will always be the Gentle Giant, a friend, a ladies man, a great husband, a loving brother, devoted family man, and upon everything else a devoted man to GOD.Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Donald Bates and Elfreda May Woods.
