PATRICIA ANNE JOYOf Alexandria, VA passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. Born August 23, 1948, Pat lived first in Norfolk, Virginia where her father was in the Navy. The family then moved to the Parklawn area of Alexandria. Pat attended Woodson High School in Fairfax from 1962 to 1964, then transferred to the new Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria. After graduation in 1966, she attended New College of Florida. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie W. Joy who served in the Department of the Navy for 43 years and in the private sector for another five years. She was also preceded in death by her mother Mary C. Joy, who had been born in Ireland. Pat’s older sister Eileen P. Joy O’Toole and brother Charles Joy also preceded her in death. As an adult, Pat lived in the Old Town and Belle View areas of Alexandria for most of her life. She enjoyed bicycling along the Potomac River and was a voracious reader. Her pet cats were a great joy to her. During her life, she traveled with friends to France, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and to California and Washington State. In the final three months of her life, Pat suffered from advanced breast cancer.
