Mrs.Martin was formerly from Alexandria, Va. and had lived there for 49 years. in 2007 she moved to Fredericksburg Va. to live with her daughters. She passed away at her daughters home peacefully with her daughters there by her side. Mrs. Martin had seen many things happen and changes in her life time, many Presidents to come and go in office, 1920 Women’s Right to vote, the stock market crash of 1929, the depression era of the thirties, remembering standing in a line for a loaf of bread for hours, World War I, World War II, 1941 Pearl Harbor and many other wars. The Spanish Flu 1918-1922 was the last time our country experienced a pandemic of the scale we have now, she was about 3 years old when it ended. Her grand children always loved the stories she would tell them about what it was like growing up through those years as well as being a child growing up on a farm where she had chores to do like filling up kerosene lamps for light at night time, churning milk for butter (getting spanked for licking off the cream by her mother), the very long time it took to walk to her one room school house and when her mother Nettie Bryant, their great grandmother who came to live in Roanoke, Va and had got their by a covered wagon.

She was loved and cherished by all of her family She was always there to help you in every way she could through your problems, health issues, your sadness, your losses, your fears, or your tears. She was always devoted to her husband and always there for him no matter what it was. He would always tell her she was his 5’2” eyes of blue lady. She is gone now, her angels and her Lord Savior said it was her time to come home but her love ones will always have their cherished memories. 3. Dave Heislup Jr says:

What a lady. I have known Mrs. Martin since I was 18 years old. I was dating her daughter Nancy. She was always kind to me and she always called me Davey. I remember many times I would fall asleep on the couch in the basement while watching TV and she would call down to Nancy to say Bud’s getting up tell Davey. She once told me -Davey your gonna get caught one of these days. Thanks to her I never did and later Nancy and I were married. I also remember how great of a cook she was. I have lots of other memories but I’ll save them. I have been living in Free Union for 20 years now, the place where Mrs. Martin was born. I always told her I love you – I will close by say I love you wonderful lady.

  4. Evans family says:
