MAXINE’S LIFE JOURNEY

Maxine Dunkley was born July 5, 1960, along with fraternal twin, Darlene, to Edward V. Dunkley, Sr. and Bernetta C. Dunkley in Alexandria, Virginia. She departed this life suddenly on June 22, 2022, at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital after a brief illness.

She attended Fairfax County Public Schools. Early in her career, she was employed with the Gum Springs Community Center. Later, she enjoyed a successful career as a property manager. From 1995 to 2000, she was employed as an assistant property manager for Altman Realty Company. From 2000 to 2008, she worked as a property manager for Klingbell Capital Management.

Maxine enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She had an enthusiastic sense of humor and was quick with jokes. She was an ace on the Scrabble board, enjoying competitive matches with her sisters, Carolyn, and Darlene. She was a wizard at playing Jeopardy and loved doing crossword puzzles. She was a diehard Washington Commanders football fan. She loved the Chicago Bulls, actually just Michael Jordan. As we all know, she was a fanatic about her hair, never a strand out of place. And let us not forget her macaroni and cheese

Maxine was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed dearly by all who had the honor to know her.

She leaves to mourn her passing-her daughter, LaKeisha Shelton Gant (Duan), son Michael “Mickey” Dunkley (Ivory), and son Curtis “CJ” Dunkley (Leshia). Her grandchildren, Veronique Shelton, Devin Shelton, Nevaeh Dunkley, Monte Alexander, Jamarr Alexander, Jayden Alexander, TaLeah Dunkley, and great grandson, Messiah Lee.

Her sisters, Glenda Dunkley (Garland), Patricia Dunkley, Mable Dunkley-Sullivan (A), Darlene Dunkley, and Tara Harrison. Devoted partner, Terrence Nash. Special friend, Yvette Wainwright. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Maxine was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel and Flora Dunkley and Joseph and Bernice Coleman. Her parents, and her sister, Carolyn F. Coleman. Her brothers, Edward V. Dunkley Jr., and William E. Dunkley.
