Marylee Benton Lloyd died peacfully at her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia on October 3, 2018.  She was surrounded by family and friends. Benton; three nephews, two nieces, three great grand nieces and nephews, and many cousins and extended family throughout the United States.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Lloyd, a highly decorated Vietnam veteran and artist, who past away in 2008 and her brother Wayne R. Benton who passed away in January 2018. Marylee retired from her position as a technical writer and editor with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. She was involved in the Buffalo Soldier Monument dedication, serving as the writer of the memorial dedication on display at Fort Levenworth, Kanasas.  When Marylee was a teenager, she was involved in the Young Volunteer Workers for the American Red Cross (Candy Stripes). Something her mother admired greatly at the time.  Marylee was a wonderful person, who loved fashion and modeling, traveling, jazz, eating crabs, and admiring the waves and saltwater ambience of the Chesapeake Bay. I am so sorry for your loss! I worked with Marylee at the USPTO. She was a fantastic individual. She had a huge heart and was always a joy to work with. We communicated via email after she retired. I certainly was blessed to know her.

1Corinthians 15:55-57 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I will miss her beautiful smile, her full laugh, her girlish giggles, and the impish glint in her eyes she had whenever she would make a joke. I’m sad that she is no longer going to be around for me to experience those uniquely wonderful things, but I’m so happy I got a chance to meet, work with and know her! She will be missed by her USPTO family!!!

Marylee had a delightful, infectious laugh that was guaranteed to brighten your day, and of her many qualities, it’s the one I’ll most miss. She was a gifted writer, and her breadth of knowledge and experience could enhance any discussion. She was kind. She was humble. She was classy. She was a beautiful and special lady, and I was honored to count both her and her husband Paul as my friends.
