Lee Gordon Moler of Sykesville, Maryland died on May 31, 2018. He was 73. He is survived by his sisters Carol Friend and Debbie Jenkins, his daughters Stephanie Yanovich and Caitlin McAfee, and several nieces and nephews.

After attending college at West Virginia University and serving in the US Army from 1968-1971, including one tour of duty in the Vietnam War, Lee completed his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He went on to earn his respiratory therapy degree from the Community College of Baltimore County and worked in his field at Johns’ Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.

A man with complex and varied interests ranging from football and roller coasters to quantum mechanics and metaphysical philosophy, Lee published two novels, Baltimore Blues and Bone Music, the latter of which was hailed as, “an odd if exciting western that mixes cowboys, Native Americans, Asians, and molecular biology.” His play, BOP, about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project was produced at Fells Point Corner Theatre, and he has collaborated with both of his daughters on various artistic projects.

Those who experienced him will know that he is irreplaceable and will be missed deeply. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Luke’s Church on the Avenue, located at 800 W. 36th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211. A gathering to celebrate Lee’s life will take place afterwards at the home of Mark and Carol Friend at 6116 Rolling View Drive, Sykesville, MD 21784.
