Navy Commander Jonathan C. Graybill Ret. passed away on May 27, 2015 at his home in Alexandria, VA. Born in Sacramento on August 20, 1951, he leaves behind four children and a daughter-in-law: Aaron and his wife Casey, Jordan, Hilary, and Jacob Schuyler; two grandchildren Anna and Alice; his father Lloyd; siblings Geoffrey and Christina; his nephew Micah; niece Kira and many friends and neighbors who cared for him dearly. Growing up in Sacramento, Jonathan graduated from McClatchy HS and UC Berkeley. He earned an MBA from Michigan State University while serving in the Navy and retired as a Commander after twenty years of service. He then worked for various organizations including the U.S. Postal Service, where he delivered the mail for over ten years. Throughout his entire life if Jonathan encountered a vehicle which proved purposeful and possessed intensity, then he most certainly drove it: bicycles, motorcycles, military aircraft beginning with the North American T-28 Trojan, the Gearing-class destroyer USS Higbee, Cessnas and other single engine aircraft, the Tourmobile, Fairfax Connector, convertible automobiles, LLV’s and Two Tons, and the FCPS school bus. He ran both the Marine Corp and the New York City Marathons at an impressive pace and was positively elated when he and his son went skydiving. He was an avid reader, a lover of huskies and a rescuer of kitties. He found peace in making the grass grow. More than anything else, he loved his children with all his heart. Jonathan was unquestionably a kind and gentle soul, he had a great sense of humor and he will be deeply missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” at Sierra Hills Memorial Park at 5757 Greenback Lane in Sacramento on June 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm. A Reception will follow immediately after on site. He will then be interred with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a date later to be determined.
