John H. Getreu, Esq. passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at his residence. He was lovingly attended by his remaining family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 17, 1924, John was the son of Doris Evelyn Bowers Getreu and John Frederick Getreu. Mr. Getreu was an attorney who served in the United States Government in the Department of Labor and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare as a Branch Chief. He also served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge 285 and maintained active status in the Virginia State Bar Association for over 50 years. He was a member of the Church of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Arlington, VA. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2666 N. Military Road, Arlington, VA 22207. Interment will be held at Quantico National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 27 at 1 PM. Arrangements by Cunningham Turch Funeral Home, Alexandria, Virginia.
