Jean Marie Carlson, widow of the late John William Moore, Jr., died peacefully at Greenspring Village, Springfield, Virginia, Thursday, 9 July 2020. She was born 21 December 1926 in Emporium, Pennsylvania, on one side the grand-daughter of 19th century immigrants from Sweden, and on the other a descendant of a line that extends to the Mayflower.
Her youth was not uncommon for women of this era, surviving the Great Depression, then working in a defense plant during the war years. She married 14 March 1947 and was the mother of four sons, including the late Robert. About 1950, the family moved to Alexandria, Virginia, living there or in nearby Fairfax County for the rest of their lives. Her passion was gardening, particularly of azaleas and orchids. Since 1960, she was a member of the Virginia Hills Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons James of Potomac, Maryland, Michael of Bethany Beach, Delaware, and Kenneth of Alexandria, Virginia; four grand-children; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 2:30 PM at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, VA

Condolence Messages

  1. Don and Dalene Bailey says:

Jim, Mike and Kenny — When my Christmas card was returned, we became concerned your Mom had passed. Very sorry to hear this — she and Bill were great neighbors to us on Maryview Street – and we enjoyed the company of you 3 and Robbie as well. You may remember after we moved to Bryce, I would come stay with your Mom at Greenspring Village the first weekend of October (our Reunion weekend) and we would go with Barbara on the Potomac House tour – always so fun. I always bragged to friends how strangers would drive by your home to view Jean’s beautiful gardens — AND she was my gardening mentor!! Don and I enjoyed many fun times with your parents — we could not have asked for better neighbors. She was always very proud of you and your families — know you will be missing her but also know she lived an enjoyable and full life and left all of us with some very good memories. Fondly – Don and Dalene Bailey

Very sorry for your loss. Jean was a special person, loved by God and family. Kenny is a big part of our family who share residence at Belle View.
She shared with me her famous breakfast muffins. Delicious!
    Always loved and missed.
