Gloria J. EakinWas called home on January 8, 2008 in Alexandria, VA. She was a deaconess at Emmanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in several women?s groups. She was a 38-year employee with the Federal Government and received numerous awards and plaques. She self-published a collection of her own poems in 1982. Gloria was preceded in death by her son, Robert Reno, and her brother William F. Jacobs. She is survived by her son, David Eakin; her sister, Rosemary Mahoney; her brother, Donald T. Jacobs; and four grandchildren, Ashleigh Eakin, Susan Reno, Thomas Reno, and Dottie Dawson. A celebration of Gloria?s life will be held on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 7-9 PM at Cunningham Funeral Home, 811 Cameron Street, Alexandria, VA where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery.

    I will deeply miss Gloria. Every Sunday before Sunday School we shared a hug. She always sent notes of concern or congratulations on many events in the life of my family. She was generous with her time, money and made great desserts. I know that she is in the best place–with God.
