I was so deeply saddened to learn of Poole’s passing. I was one of the many enlisted personnel who had the priviledge and honor to work with Evelyn Poole at the veterinary clinic,(Fort Belvoir). How she was able to cope with us, many like myself, too young and away from home for the first time, I will never understand. It was quickly recognized that she could solve any personal problem, using her common sense and southern wisdom. She was the glue that held the clinic together for so many years and the reason to look forward to just being there. I remember her Hawaii vacation, it seemed like an eternity before she came back to us! But with Puka shell necklaces in hand, she quickly resumed her duties. How we managed without her I don’t know. All the lunches, the trips to the thrift store on post, all the drama of relationships, family issues, transfers, she dealt with all of that, with all of us, with grace and dignity. I last saw her in the late 90’s, I drove up from my sisters home in the Richmond area, and we had lunch. She was cute as a button, same sweet smile, personality and laugh, how I enjoyed our time together. We did have contact through the years with telephone calls and cards, etc. I am so blessed to have known such a fine lady, she will never be forgotten, but always missed. I love you, Evelyn Poole

She is in heaven, alongside her husband, her mom and her brother. I loved her – she was my second mom. And oh how I’ll remember all the laughter we shared! Big hugs for the family, especially my best friend, her daughter, Jan. ❤️

  4. Kathy says:

Aunt Evelyn, Oh how you still are loved! Your smile, laugh and such a caring person. I can actually see and hear you now. Amazing how great memories can replay as if yesterday! So many times you made sure I got home safe. when I couldn’t spend the night. I can remember Ernest coming to deliver baked goods, heard about riding in convertible with Catherine, and showing Shannon how you “Pogo” and broke your wrist. Your memories will always be with us!
Say Hello to Dad and take care of him for me, pelase!
    Love
    Kathy and Charlie
