Elsa Dyana Vasquez-Flores died November 18, 2018 in a fatal car accident.  She was born on March 11, 1992.  She is survived by her mother, Francisca Flores; father, Edwin Vasquez Torrez; sister, Stephanie Vasquez, Cecilia Quinones, Madeline Vasquez; brother, Louis Andres Vasquez; grandmothers, Maria Ramirez and Martha Torrez; grandfather, Jose Flores; and boyfriend, Antonio Gonzalez along with Day’z Gonzalez their pitbull child.

Elsa graduated from Potomac High School in June 2010.  She was the first in her family to graduate college from Mary Baldwin University with honors in distinction in 2014.  Elsa was an important member of the Quest honors society based on divinity and coexisting of all religious experiences. She also studied abroad in Cherident, Haiti for an Alternative education experience where she worked in the school with the community children and organized a community mural. Post undergrad Elsa became an AmeriCorps member for Aspire in Arlington VA. She continued her work after AmeriCorps to become the Site Coordinator at Aspire, where she made an overwhelming impact. Elsa was an avid volunteer and advocate for her community. She was a global citizen and practiced peace and love in every situation. But always spoke her mind in a considerate way in order to align people opposed to divide them.

From 2015 to current Elsa was a board member for the Governor of Virginia’s service and volunteerism board. In 2017 Elsa won the highly esteemed Segal Leadership Award for promoting social justice in the DMV. As a public servant Elsa moved on to work at F.L.O.C (for the love of children).  Elsa was in process of obtaining her Masters in Special Education with a concentration in ESL for Liberty University.

Elsa was a wanderlust and obsessed with nature and had plans to travel the world with her best friend Alex. She was extremely spiritual and did everything with love and compassion, hard working, determined and the best planner of all of her avenues.

We the family would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to everyone who spent time with Elsa, giving her joy, pleasure and, love. So that she may shine her beautiful light on to everyone, giving others permission to shine as well. Her last dream was to travel the world with her best friend, boyfriend and family.
