Clara “Kay” Morton, age 93, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2020 at Sunrise of Mt. Vernon in Alexandria. She was born July 3, 1927 in New Canton, Virginia, daughter of Everett B. and Blanche Phillips Mahon.

Clara graduated from nursing school in Alexandria, where she met her husband, Harold Morton. They had one son, Michael (Christine) Morton. After Mike’s birth, Clara gave up nursing and became active in the community, serving on the preservation board at Mt. Vernon. Clara had many interests and talents, including landscape painting, collecting period antiques, floral arranging, and ballroom dancing.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son; all six of her siblings, Virginia (John Stuart) Clayton of Richmond, Estelle (Robert) Carrington of Nashville, Everett B. (Mary) Mahon, Jr. of Richmond, Ethelyn (George) Bannister of Richmond, Anita (Jack) Hope of Cincinnati,
Dr. Charles B. Mahon (Joyce) of Williamsburg; niece, Nancy (Tonu) Bruns; and nephew, Donnie Bannister.

Clara leaves behind many dear friends and family members including her devoted caregiver and daughter-in-law, Christine (Andy) Moore of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Catherine (Frank) Donoghue of Whiting, NJ, nieces and nephews, John Stuart Clayton of Middlebrook, Sandra (William) Nelson of Nashville, Jerry (Billie Jean) Bannister of Boydton, Linda (Tim) Doerger of Cincinnati, Debra (Bradford) Seaman of Live Oak, FL, Katherine (Tracy) Norton of Winter Garden, FL, Charles B. Mahon Jr. of Richmond, and Tom (Katina) Mortimer of Haverhill, MA.

Burial will take place at Mt. Comfort Cemetery and a memorial service in honor of Clara will be held at a later date.

    So sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. She was best friend of Millie Yuhas who passed in 2009 and I am her daughter who heard many kind words of Kay and Mort over the years.
