Christina Ann Szczepanski
April 27, 1949 – June 10, 2020

Christina (Tina) Ann Szczepanski, formerly Stavnicky, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her husband, John who passed in 2008, Tina is survived by her children, John Szczepanski and wife Kim, Kristina MacPherson and husband Chris, and Michael Szczepanski and wife Tammy; her grandchildren, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Kiersten, Jacob, Collin, Cameron, Joshua, and Kelsey; her brother Paul Stavnicky and wife Kathy; her sister Bernadette Giovenco; several nieces, nephews and other family members and lifelong friends. She has left a mark on many and will be truly missed.

After graduating from Sacred Heart Hospital Registered Nursing program, Tina married her high school sweetheart and West Point graduate, John on June 12, 1971. Embarking on the adventure of military life, Tina moved throughout the U.S. (Florida, Alaska, Texas, New York, Kansas, and Massachusetts) as well as Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. She and John finally settled in Huntsville, AL, in 2007. Tina was passionate about the medical field and maintained her nursing license throughout much of her early years while balancing the demands of raising three children. As her children got older Tina ventured into the banking world, progressing through the ranks from teller to bank officer at Winchester Savings Bank and then later took a role at M.I.T. Federal Credit Union.

A constant among the moves were Tina’s love of spending time with family and friends. She was artistic in nature and this showed in many of her hobbies. She had a green thumb and spent many hours tirelessly planting beautiful flower beds, she could create magic with material in the form of intricate handmade quilts and she was a culinary whiz; just to name a few. Tina was a truly caring and loving individual. She was most happy when spending precious time with family, particularly her grandchildren who referred to her as ‘Grammy.’
A celebration of Tina’s life will be held at the United States Military Academy Cemetery at West Point, NY, at 10:00 am on Monday, September 14, 2020. A luncheon will follow at the Thayer Hotel Restaurant. Please note, due to COVID restrictions numbers will be limited.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: Dana Farber Cancer Institute (https://www.dana-farber.org), Susan G. Komen (https://ww5.komen.org), or the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org).

    To my baby sister:
Before it was “so long”; this time is it “Forever Goodbye” to my little sister. We celebrated Tea Parties-walked our babydolls in our doll carriages. Playing on the beaches n riding waves on our floaty. You were my maid-of -honor; I,your natron–of-honor. Babies, birthdays parties, graduations, celebrations of our childrens’ weddings, grandchildren. It was wonderful. Thank you my sister. “Life is like a campfire-enjoy the warmth of the flame before it goes out” I love you and miss you My heart hurts. You are now with your beloved John and dancing to the music he always played 💕 Love

  2. Kate Lacoste Surprenant says:

I will always remember Mrs. Szczepanski like a warm hug. So sweet and kind. I remember when she patiently placed frozen slices of cucumber all over me when I neglected to use sunscreen watching the Boston marathon. Kristina, I love you and will keep you and your family in my prayers. Your mom’s memory is truly a blessing to me.
