Obituary: (English)

Carmen Silvia Henriquez was born in El Progreso, Honduras. She has 10 brothers and sisters and was the sixth child. The day my mother was born, my grandmother had been making tamales and
needless to say, the tamales must have been so delicious that it triggered my grandmother to go into labor. My grandfather would always say that my mom was born in the best month of the
year, the month of flowers. Carmen was funny, brave, determined, loving, and intelligent. My mom’s favorite phrase was, “Julie, do not be afraid, you must take life by the horns.” My mom
was the pillar and example of what true strength and compassion looked like and I thank God for allowing me to have such an amazing mother. Carmen loved working with children and
dedicated 17 years of her life to being a Child Care Provider. She believed in encouraging children to read early on because she was a firm believer in the power of education. My mom
loved going to the beach, visiting family in Honduras, cooking, and gardening. In 2008 my mom’s garden was chosen as a recipient as a Beautification Award Winner from the City of
Alexandria. This was one of the many awards that my mother had received in her lifetime showing that she was a courageous, passionate, and deeply spiritual child of God. Traits that she
carried with her until her final day. I am both honored and humbled to call her my mother and I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her. I love you Mom. -Julie

Carmen Silvia Henriquez nació en El Progreso, Honduras y fue parte de una gran familia de 10 hermanos y hermanas. El día que mi mamá nació, mi abuela había hecho tamales y está de más decir, lo sabrosos que quedaron, ya que hizo que mi abuela diera a luz a mi mamá ese mismo día. Mi abuelo siempre dijo que mi mamá, nació en el mejor mes del año, en Mayo mes de las flores. Carmen fue alegre, valiente, decidida, amorosa e inteligente. La frase favorita de mi mamá era “Julie, no debes tener miedo, debes tomar la vida por los cuernos”. Mi mamá era un pilar y
ejemplo de fuerza y compasión y doy gracias a Dios por haberme permitido tener una mamá tan increíble como ella. Carmen amó trabajar con niños y dedicó 17 años de su vida a ser proveedor de servicios de cuidado de niños ya que creía en la estimulación temprana y el poder de la educación. A mi mamá le encantaba ir a la playa, visitar a su familia en Honduras, cocinar y sobre todo la jardinería, muestra de ello fue que en 2008 su jardín fue seleccionado como ganador del premio de decoración paisajista de la ciudad de Alexandria, este fue uno de los muchos
reconocimientos que recibió mi mamá en su vida y que mostraban que era una hija de Dios, valiente, apasionada y profundamente espiritual, rasgos que llevó consigo hasta su último día. Me siento honrada por llamarla mi mamá y sin ella no sería la mujer que soy. Te quiero mucho mamá. Julie
