Brig. Gen. Sheldon J. Lustig (U.S.A.F., ret.), 86, of Springfield, VA passed away September 2, 2017 surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his parents, Philip and Norma Lustig of Binghamton, NY, his brother, Jacob E. Lustig (U.S.M.A. ’57) and his son-in-law, Craig H. Kinsley, Ph.D.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margery, daughters Nancy Kinsley and Sue McPeek, grandchildren, Devon and David Kinsley and Jenna McPeek, sister-in-law Phyllis Lustig, brother-in-law Arthur S. Levy, M.D. (Ruth), and many loving nieces and nephews.

 

Gen. Lustig graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point (’53) and proudly served in the Air Force for 30 years.  His career culminated with his assignments as Director of Engineering and Services of Strategic Air Command and the United States Air Forces in Europe. He earned a Masters of Regional Planning from Syracuse University. His honors include The Newman Medal from the Society of American Military Engineers and The Distinguished Service Medal.  He is a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

 

Shelly, Dad, Papa, Uncle Shelly will be especially remembered for his honesty and integrity, and for his passions for fishing, golf, spirited discussion, unabashed support of the underdog, inevitable serenade of Let the Rest of the World Go By at any family occasion, and his spot-on John Wayne impression.  Farewell, Pilgrim!

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s foundation or a charity of your choice. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
