ARTHUR HENRY EPPERSON, JR. was born on September 19, 1943 in Rawlings, VA. He was the second oldest of nine children born to the late Arthur Henry Epperson, Sr. and Nina Lee Epperson. Arthur accepted Christ at a young age and attended the Lovely Zion Baptist Church in Rawlings, VA. He graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in Brunswick County, VA where he was an excellent athlete particularly excelling in football and his passion — baseball!

While in Rawlings, VA, Arthur met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Tucker (“Dottie”). In 1966. Arthur joined the United States Army obtaining the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was stationed in El Paso, Texas. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Arthur moved back to Arlington, VA, and eventually settled in Falls Church, VA.

Arthur was employed at Giant Foods grocery store as a Frozen Foods Manager. He retired from Giant Foods after 30 years. Arthur was also known as an excellent cook! He never failed to call his brothers and tell them his latest concoctions.

Arthur was affectionately known as Jr., Uncle Jr., Uncle Pop Pop, Pop Pop and Epp. Arthur had a joyful spirit, beautiful smile and a wonderful laugh lighting up any room he entered! Arthur also doted on his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Because of his generous spirit, Arthur never let an opportunity pass to take in those who needed a place to stay, give funds to those he never expected to receive back and make friends with any and every one he met.

On February 28, 2020 at Future Care Rehabilitation Center, an angel of the Lord was dispatched to bring Arthur home. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Epperson (“Dottie”), two sons, Anthony (Serita) and Cliffton (Nancy); 6 grandchildren, Kylee, Jaylon, Cliffton Jr. (CJ), Cameron, Tyler and Aniya, who were all near and dear to his heart. Surviving siblings are William “Sonny” (Ilona), James “Jimmy,” Willie Norris, Leroy, Ida Mae, Dwight (Valerie), and Kenneth (Gale). Preceded in death by Father Arthur Sr., Mother Nina Lee, brother George (Mae) and Larry. Brothers and sisters-in-laws, Jerry Perkins (Bobby), Earline Pitchford (Carl), Warner Tucker (Urcel), Wilbert Tucker(Sheila) and preceded in death by Clarence (Anne). He also left a host of nieces, nephews, cousins that will cherish his memories forever and a large group of friends who think of him as family.
