Allen Teiji Jones passed away in his home in the early hours of August 9, 2019 at the age of 51, after a hard-fought battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Allen is survived by his loving wife Terri Jones; children: Jasmine, Darnell, Karlijn, and Kiyoko; granddaughter Zoey; mother Chiyoko Jones; and brother Glenn Jones. He was preceded by his father Richard Jones, brother Darryl Jones, and sister Lynn Krieger.

Allen was born October 31, 1967 in Tachikawa, Japan, where his father was serving in the United States Air Force and met his wife. The Jones family then traveled back to the United States and eventually settled in Browns Mills, NJ. Allen enjoyed the time he spent with his three siblings; Lynn, Darryl, and Glenn, exploring the outdoors and competing in sports. Allen went on the graduate from Pemberton Township High School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1986, following the tradition of service embodied by his father and older brothers. Allen served as a Vehicle Operations Craftsman for 12 years until became a Military Training Leader at the United States Air Force Academy in 1998. After several years of molding the minds of the Air Force’s future leaders, Allen completed his Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and was selected to attend Officer Training School to join the ranks of the Air Force’s commissioned officers.

After gaining his commission and serving a short stint at Dover AFB, Allen obtained his Master of Science in Cyber Security and was selected for reassignment to the Defense Information Systems Agency and subsequently, the National Security Council, where he stayed until he retired from active duty in 2010, after nearly 25 years of service. However, Allen was not done serving his country, as he continued to work for the National Security Council as the Chief Information Officer up until his diagnosis prevented him from doing so. In this position, Allen closely supported the White House Situation Room, the President, Vice President, National Security Advisor, and other senior National Security Staff members. During his time in the United States Air Force and at The White House, Allen served three Presidential administrations, traveled to 106 countries, mentored numerous colleagues, and made countless life-long friends.
Allen was a family man and loved spending time with his wife, children and close friends. He spent a lot of time supporting his children’s interests in sports and other outdoor activities. He always had a passion for cars, whether it be cruising in the Corvette or off-roading in his Jeep. Allen was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Boston Red Sox fan, attending games every season. After falling ill, Allen was able to attend the Super Bowl and witness his Eagles firsthand take home the 2017 World Champions.

Allen remained a pillar of support for his family and friends even through his diagnosis. He inspired hundreds with his positive outlook on life and influenced others to make the most of their time here on earth. This became known as The Dash Movement, based on The Dash Poem by Linda Ellis. This movement began with a few close friends tattooing a dash on their wrist to serve as reminder that life is fleeting, and has turned into over one hundred people inspired to do the same.

The visitation will be held at New Life Church (9690 Shepherds Creek Place, La Plata, MD 20646) on August 15, 2019 at 10:30AM-12:30PM with services following 1:00PM-2:30PM.
