Alice Ann Petitt Jackson, 78, of Alexandria, VA, passed away at the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital on Tuesday, January 23, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Colonel Charles H. Jackson, USAF, and her dear parents, Fred and Louise Petitt. Her remains rest at the Cunningham Funeral Home on Cameron Street in Alexandria, VA. Family visitation is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2007, from 7 ? 9 p.m. and again on Sunday, January 28, 2007, from 2-3 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. Ann grew up in the Rosemont area of Alexandria, attended Maury Elementary School and then George Washington High School from which she graduated in 1946. She attended college at Southern Seminary in Buena Vista, VA. Following graduation, she served for two years as the Society Editor of the Alexandria Gazette under Jack Tulloch, Editor. Later she served in the Human Resource Office of the Jelleff?s Dept. store in Washington, D.C. In 1965, she married Lt. Colonel Charles Jackson and they relocated to Edgewater, MD, to a home on Turkey Point. Ann?s main goal in life was to be a nice person. Her church membership was first at Trinity Methodist Church in Alexandria and then at the Mayo Methodist Church near Edgewater. She supported the Methodist Church and several charities with both financial and personal service. She drove for Meals on Wheels, and strongly supported the SPCA and Humane Society of which she was a national member, the Christian Children?s Fund, and was very active in the Salvation Army. Her personal relationship with Christ, strong faith, sincere charm and friendly ways were a source of inspiration to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her dear stepmother and her husband, June and William Evans; her dear sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne Petitt and Edward Hegamyer, and her dear brother and his wife and children, Andrew S. and Kellie Petitt, Kristi and Haley; her beloved cousin, A. W. Wayland; her special friends: Betty and Bobby Higgins, Marian Nowland, Dean and Kay Cowherd, Usah and Andy Wallace, James Earman and his mother, Joyce, Tom, Maria, and Theresa Nugent, Peggy Carter; her dear neighbors in Old Town: Katherina Frasure, Martha and Ken Wertz, Cindy Lisec, Marianne and Tom Walker, the Knudsens, the Edwards and all of her other relatives and friends. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff members of the Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital who lovingly assisted and cared for Ann during her stays there. The family extends special gratitude to Dr. Leroy Smith and his associates and staff of Hematology Oncology Associates. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army of Alexandria, Meals on Wheels, or the Alexandria Fire and EMS Donation Account.
